FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
I have had my Anthurium for some time now, and it has stopped flowering; what do I do now?The plant has probably received insufficient light, as a result of which it has stopped growing new buds. The best remedy is to move the plant to a location where it receives more light. The plant will begin by growing a new leaf, and will then bud.
What should I do with yellow leaves and/or brown flowers?
You may remove yellow leaves; cut them off as close to the base as possible. You can pull off brown flowers.
The plant has developed a new bud close to its base, but it isn’t unrolling. What should I do now?
The humidity in your room is probably too low for your Anthurium. Keeping the top of the soil moister will help remedy the problem. You can also place an inverted saucer in the bottom of the outer pot and then pour water in the base; make sure that the Anthurium does not come into direct contact with the water. Provided that you keep the water topped up your Anthurium will be assured of the appropriate humidity, and the buds will develop into attractive flowers.
The leaves of my Anthurium have become dull and dusty, what can I do to remedy this?
Rinsing or sponging the leaves with water – preferably rainwater – will remove the dust. Giving fertilizer will result in foliage with an attractive colour. Spraying liquid feed on the foliage will also result in leaves with an attractive colour.
My Anthurium is growing a new leaf, but it is brown: is this normal?
Yes, every new leaf changes colour from brown to green, and even to dark green when it has reached maturity.
